Dr. Amy Morrison, ND
Naturopathic Doctor with a Focus on Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome
Dr. Amy Morrison is a Naturopathic Doctor who provides proactive solutions for persistent health problems. With innate knowledge of how the body’s many systems interconnect with one another — particularly the digestive and reproductive systems — Dr. Morrison strives to provide the answers her patients have not been able to find elsewhere in Calgary.
Dr. Morrison’s competencies range across autoimmune, inflammatory, and chronic disorders, as well as gut health and female reproductive hormones. She leverages a robust, multi-disciplinary background of personal training, nutrition, and naturopathic medicine to not only diagnose and treat various health conditions but also educate patients along the way.
Why Naturopathic Medicine?
Like many naturopaths at Neurvana Naturopathic Medicine, Dr. Morrison’s interest in naturopathic care stems from her personal health concerns. Major life changes, including a move home after university and the passing of her father, acted as stressors that contributed to the onset of relentless digestive issues with seemingly no solution.
“I just knew that the way I was feeling and the symptoms I was experiencing couldn’t be a normal part of life, and I didn’t want to continue living like that. I was coming up with roadblocks while trying to figure it out, and I wasn’t finding anything that was alleviating my symptoms. I just wanted to continue to dig into the research and learn as much as I could to try and figure it out for myself.” — Dr. Amy Morrison, ND
Before long, Dr. Morrison began the frustrating (and time-consuming) process of identifying and eliminating foods that could be the source of her bloating and abdominal pain, turning to supplements to improve her digestion. Unfortunately, this approach only worked for a bit, ultimately leaving her in excruciating pain by the end of the day.
“The more foods you cut out, the more restrictive your diet is. It becomes almost an obsession of, ‘I can’t eat that food because I’m unsure if it will hurt my digestive tract.’ At the end of the day, if you can’t eat anything, then it becomes very hard to live and be happy with the food choices you’re making. I just wanted to find the answer for myself so that I didn’t have to live the rest of my life like this.” — Dr. Amy Morrison, ND
In the quest to understand her chronic digestive symptoms, Dr. Morrison began to study holistic nutrition at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, where she became fascinated by the many systems of the human body. She ultimately enrolled in the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine, where she then became a licensed Naturopathic Doctor.
New Solutions for Endless Symptoms
For Dr. Morrison, the most rewarding aspect of serving the Calgary community is the opportunity to provide a solution for seemingly endless symptoms. Her philosophy is that there is always an answer for what’s happening inside the body — and she makes it her mission to methodically find that answer with the empathy of a trusted friend.
“Patients come in with no hope, on very restrictive diets, not really enjoying their food consumption or socialization because of the symptoms they’re experiencing. Then, over a matter of months, I allow them to see their symptoms reduce and incorporate more foods into their everyday life without fear they need to be close to a bathroom, that they’re going to experience pain or bloating, or that gas that will impact their activities of daily living.” — Dr. Amy Morrison, ND
Dr. Morrison strives to make each patient feel they have been heard when it comes to the symptoms they’ve struggled with for months or even years. During your first visit with Dr. Morrison, she will discuss your main health concerns, gather a comprehensive health history, perform any relevant physical exams, and review current treatment.
“A lot of people want someone to actually take the time to take all their symptoms into consideration, sit down with them, and explain what is happening in their body. It’s really important for me to be able to listen to what you’re going through and spend the time with you that we need in order for you to communicate to me what is happening in your body and what symptoms you’re experiencing.” — Dr. Amy Morrison, ND

Getting Personal with Dr. Morrison, ND
A Calgary native, Dr. Morrison has practiced naturopathic medicine for three years, primarily in the downtown area as well as in the Southwest. Though she spent time in British Columbia for her studies, she much prefers being back in Calgary, where her proximity to friends, family, and a whole lot of sunshine helps her thrive each day at work.
When she’s not in the office building relationships with and charting treatment plans for her patients, you can find Dr. Morrison hitting the soccer field or taking an 8-kilometer run along the Bow River. Just don’t let all that activity fool you — she’s also a chocolate connoisseur who would prefer a piece of dark chocolate for breakfast over coffee!
“My favorite thing about working with my patients is the relationships that I get to build with them. We get to spend a decent amount of time together, and I get to learn about their lifestyle, their family, their friends, and their upbringing. I really get to know an in-depth version of who they are and I really like to connect with them on that level.” — Dr. Amy Morrison, ND
