Naturopathic Doctor with a Focus on Longevity, Vitality and Health Optimization

Dr. Dawn is passionate about helping patients improve their quality of life, optimize their health and feel more energetic and engaged in their lives. She has a particular interest in women’s sexual health and helping women reconnect with their bodies, femininity and eroticism. Her approach may explore hormonal health, mood, chronic stress and long-held beliefs that can affect a woman’s sense of connection and vitality.

About Dr. Dawn May

Dr. Dawn May grew up in British Columbia’s Okanagan, where becoming independent and self-sufficient at a young age helped shape her natural curiosity and strong problem-solving abilities. Today, she brings that same curiosity into her clinical work, viewing each patient’s health as a puzzle to explore collaboratively through their symptoms, experiences and medical history.

Dr. Dawn’s own journey of reconnecting with her feminine identity also deeply informs her work. She understands that life experiences can leave women feeling disconnected from their bodies, femininity and sense of vitality. Helping women rediscover that connection, and feel more vibrant and fulfilled, is an important part of her practice.

Dr. Dawn holds a Bachelor of Science with majors in Anatomy and Public Health from the University of Western Australia and earned her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine. She has completed additional training in prolotherapy, advanced IV therapy, IV chelation, ozone therapy and acupuncture.

“I am passionate about helping people increase their quality of life. I want people to feel better than fine, I want to help people feel amazing! I take people through a nine month journey to bring them to optimal health and vitality. We move through 3 pillars of health: digestion, hormones and nervous system, to address the whole body’s potential for health.

I am also passionate about women’s sexual health. Too often women don’t feel connected to their femininity and eroticism. Addressing hormones, outdated belief patterns, mood, and chronic stress helps women align with their most vibrant selves.” — Dr. Dawn May, ND

Why Naturopathic Medicine?

Dr. Dawn’s interest in naturopathic medicine began early. Even as a teenager, she was curious about how the body heals and often sought natural approaches to support herself, her friends and her family. While travelling in Australia, she discovered naturopathic medicine and immediately recognized it as the career she had been looking for.

For Dr. Dawn, naturopathic medicine makes intuitive and scientific sense: the body is continually working toward balance but requires the right environment and building blocks to do so. She values its integration of mind, body and spirit and its focus on identifying underlying contributors, removing obstacles to healing and addressing deficiencies.

She also wants patients to understand that naturopathic medicine is evidence-informed and comprehensive. It is the original medicine with centuries of evidence as well as current, high-quality research. It incorporates a wide range of interventions, from minimally invasive treatments like diet and lifestyle to stronger medicines like nutraceuticals, herbal medicine, IV therapy and even pharmaceuticals, when necessary.

By having all the tools available, we can start where the body is at and adjust over time as the body heals, with the goal to ultimately get back into balance to the most healthy and fulfilled self.

“By addressing the root of the problem, removing obstacles and correcting any deficiencies the body heals itself. I am amazed and inspired when I see how much is possible with this medicine.” — Dr. Dawn May, ND

She is also passionate about proactive and preventative care. By identifying areas of vulnerability and supporting them early, Dr. Dawn aims to help patients maintain their health, independence and quality of life as they age.

“Prevention is ideal when it comes to health. When it comes to longevity, preventative health can help slow the aging process and keep people feeling healthier and more vibrant as they get older.

Identifying areas of weakness in the body can help direct us to the prevention tools that work best for the individual. It’s important to enjoy life, and this is a big part of optimal health. Having the right tools for prevention can ensure someone can enjoy their life to the fullest, adding value to their health.” — Dr. Dawn May, ND

Approach to Care

Dr. Dawn believes healing begins when a person feels fully heard. She takes time to understand each patient’s concerns and experiences before explaining her findings and recommendations in a clear, thorough way. Her patients are active participants in their care. Dr. Dawn welcomes questions and concerns and adapts treatment plans when needed so they remain realistic, manageable and aligned with each person’s lifestyle and goals. She wants patients to leave their appointments feeling heard, understood and inspired to make meaningful changes, without feeling overwhelmed.

Dr. Dawn combines natural therapies with current research and clinical experience while recognizing that every person responds differently. Treatment is therefore both evidence- informed and individualized, with adjustments made as the patient’s body and circumstances change.

She encourages patients to talk openly about those feelings and provides accountability, regular support and practical next steps. She believes that incorporating purpose and enjoyment into everyday life is an essential part of sustainable health.

Her philosophy continues to evolve through ongoing education, including courses, webinars, podcasts and mentorship from other professionals. She draws inspiration from a wide range of voices exploring relationships, personal growth, neuroscience and the human experience, including Esther Perel, Dr. Joe Dispenza, Maya Angelou and Dr. Andrew Huberman.

Dr. Dawn lived in Australia for nearly ten years and has travelled to 27 countries. Her experiences across different cultures and ways of living have broadened her understanding of health, well-being and what it means to live a fulfilling life.

Some of her most memorable adventures include attending a women’s wellness retreat in Cabo Verde, exploring the Galápagos Islands, spending time in the Peruvian Amazon and visiting beaches throughout Greece, Spain, Thailand, Fiji, Indonesia and Australia.

Closer to home, Dr. Dawn enjoys surfing, snowboarding, hiking and paddleboarding. She is married and has two daughters, one in high school and one preparing to attend university in Australia. Their family also includes Mojo, a Frenchton, and two black cats named Katniss and Diamond.

“I don’t like the term biohacking because it feels like it’s going against nature. I think the best way to improve longevity is to work with nature, giving the body everything it needs for optimal health, reducing the aging process.

While this often uses the ‘biohacking’ modalities, I prefer to call it health optimization, longevity and improving overall wellbeing. Although some people might resonate better with the biohacking buzzword.” — Dr. Dawn May, ND
